The city of La Rochelle is situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is the most populated city of the administrative department of Charente-Maritime, ahead of Saintes, Rochefort and Royan. A port complex of the first order, now more than ever the city of La Rochelle merits its reputation as a ‘gateway to the ocean’ thanks to its three ports, a fishing port, a cargo port, and a marina. Thanks to the islands of the Île de Ré, the Île d’Oléron, and the Île d’Aix, La Rochelle is perfectly protected from storms. These 3 islands form a real barrier around the city of La Rochelle, all three are accessible and you can get to them easily with a boat rental from La Rochelle. In terms of the heritage of the city, we recommend first of all a visit to the old port. The old port, which dates back to the 13th century, is fortified and equipped with two towers which date from the 14th and 15th centuries. The city also boasts a wealth of important architecture. For example, walking through the city centre, you can admire the streets with their arcades and building façades often dating back to the 15th century!
La Rochelle’s old port has 380 spaces, 85 of which are for visitors and is accessed via a dredged channel from the coast. This port is of course equipped with everything necessary to refuel and restock. Open hull boats, semi rigid boats, day cruisers, you have many models at your disposal so that your boat rental at La Rochelle can go off without a hitch. Our professional boat rental partners in La Rochelle will be there to guide you. If you do not hold a boat licence, fear not, you can also rent boats with a skipper or rent boats without a licence at La Rochelle.
The port of Les Minimes is equipped with 4,500 berths, of which 440 are visitor spaces. It is of course possible to opt for a motor boat rental in the port of Les Minimes at La Rochelle. Our professional rental partners in La Rochelle will provide the solutions you need for a pleasant trip out to sea. You have many models at your disposal from amongst our many open hull boats, day cruisers, semi rigid boats, boats without a licence, etc.
During a trip out to sea at La Rochelle, you can visit a multitude of sites of great beauty. Of course we recommend that first you set sail for the Île de Ré. This island benefits from a real mosaic of breathtaking landscapes that will undoubtedly delight the whole crew! There are also 10 typically charming villages, made up of traditional white houses and plentiful, flourishing nature which will give you memories to last a lifetime. Similarly, you could visit the renowned Île d’Oléron, the Île d’Aix or the Île Madame. These 4 islands afford the city of La Rochelle protection from storms. Next, be sure not to miss the chance to visit the famous Fort Boyard. The fort is also part of the Archipel Charentais island group and is nowadays associated with the Île d’Aix municipality. We also recommend discovering the Pertuis d’Antioche strait and its sublime coastline. There are also many towers which are worth a detour. Of course, the two towers of the port of La Rochelle are an essential visit, with their imposing architecture, but you could equally set sail towards Saint Nicolas Tower, the Lanterne Tower or even the La Chaîne Tower. La Rochelle is an ideal city for a boat rental, its magnificent port and its sublime surroundings make for a superb day at sea, full of breathtaking discoveries and sensations.
